Scholarship Program
January 2012
Dear Graduating Senior,
The vision of Rotary founder Paul Harris was of a club that would kindle friendship among members of the Chicago business community. Through the subsequent spread of the Rotary movement, the spirit of friendship and service evolved quite naturally into a focus on helping to build goodwill and peace in the world.
Today there are more than 28,000 Rotary clubs in 155 countries around the world. Nearly 1.2 million business and professional men and women constitute the membership of these clubs. They share the purposes of providing humanitarian service, encouraging high ethical standards in all vocations, and building good will and peace in the world. They give life to the Rotary motto, Service Above Self.
One of our many service projects is the scholarship program. Every year, we award two $1,000 per year cash scholarships to graduated high school seniors who enroll full time in college. The scholarship is renewable each year for three additional years provided you remain enrolled full time in college and are not on academic probation while in college. Students interested in applying should have the following qualifications:
- Is a resident of the Hockessin, Pike Creek, Greenville, Centreville area
- Is not related to a Rotarian
- Performs community service work
- Participates in extracurricular activities
- Has high academic accomplishments
- Is recognized for outstanding achievement
The Becky Wolhar Youth in Citizenship Book Award winner will also be selected. This is a one time $1,000 book award based solely on community service.
We invite you to complete the attached Rotary scholarship application. Please attach a resume, a transcript of your grades, a letter of recommendation, and any other information you want to tell us about. Please note the number of semesters you have participated in any activity. The application deadline is April 25, 2012.
